The Introvert Travel Agency: Visit Sweden opened one that sells silence

By Amruta Jadhav On Read 5 min read

Most travel agencies sell destinations. Visit Sweden opened one that sells silence. The Introvert Travel Agency, created by Prime Weber Shandwick and launched on September 29, 2026, is a tourism concept built around a research finding that most destination marketing boards would file quietly and move past: 67% of travellers prefer destinations where social interaction feels optional.

Sweden decided to make that a selling point.

The Research

Visit Sweden commissioned YouGov to survey travellers across European markets in June and July 2026. The findings describe a specific and growing travel psychology that the industry had been observing without formally naming. Nearly half of respondents said they sometimes needed a vacation from their vacation. 53% said they would pay extra for more peace, privacy, or fewer crowds. 41% described themselves as introverts, 45% as a mix of introvert and extrovert, and only 14% as extroverts.

The research confirmed what anyone who has returned from a group holiday exhausted already knows: the socialisation required by modern tourism, the tour groups, the hostel communal kitchens, the enforced dining experiences, the small talk with strangers on organised activities, is itself a source of fatigue. The holiday that was supposed to restore energy had been consuming it.

Sweden had something to say to that finding. Its culture had always included a concept of personal space that most other destinations do not share. Allemansrätten, the right to roam freely across Sweden’s public land and nature, means that a visitor can spend days in the countryside, in forests, along lakes, without requiring permission, social interaction, or the presence of anyone else. Taking up two seats on public transport and avoiding small talk are, as the hero film’s travel agent describes it, simply acceptable practices rather than social transgressions.

The Hero Film

The campaign’s 75-second hero film is built around a single, deadpan premise. A well-dressed travel agent sits behind a desk at The Introvert Travel Agency. He has one destination to sell. He introduces it with the measured authority of someone who has found the right product for a customer who has been waiting a long time to be understood.

Sweden, he explains, is the paradise for introverts. Personal space is not a preference here. It is a way of life. He describes the attractions not as things to do but as things to not be required to do. The film’s tone is warm, slightly wry, and entirely serious about its proposition. The comedy is in the recognition rather than the exaggeration.

MediaPost’s coverage described the film’s central argument: the campaign is Visit Sweden’s solution for travellers who have tired of overtourism, crowded itineraries, and travel fatigue, and who want the freedom to slow down, avoid social pressure, and experience a destination at their own pace.

The Online Tool

The campaign’s primary digital product is a quiz available at visitsweden.com/the-introvert-travel-agency. Visitors answer questions about their introversion tendencies and travel preferences. The quiz returns six suggested travel packages to Sweden, each bookable through external tour operators, alongside four inspirational articles from Visit Sweden curated to match their specific introvert profile.

Visit Sweden does not sell or book trips directly. The Introvert Travel Agency is a matching and inspiration tool that connects travellers with external providers who offer the kind of experience the quiz has identified as suitable. The distinction matters for the campaign’s tone: this is a service that respects the introvert preference for self-directed decisions rather than a sales process that pushes toward a transaction.

The Pop-Ups

The Introvert Travel Agency appears as a physical experience in three European cities during October 2026. Berlin runs from October 14 to 17 at Prinzenstraße 84.2. Paris runs from October 21 to 24 at 2 bis rue Commines. London runs from October 28 to 31 at 3 Paddington Street, Marylebone.

The pop-up spaces are designed with introvert comfort in mind, described by Visit Sweden as offering travel information in environments built for the audience rather than for the brand. The spaces provide Sweden’s nature, space, and relaxed social culture made physically tangible for visitors planning a quieter kind of holiday. Travel agents and industry partners are also being invited to explore the campaign’s curated itineraries at the pop-ups, with Visit Sweden positioning the Introvert Travel Agency as an opportunity for trade partners to expand their wellness portfolios.

The Platform It Continues

The Introvert Travel Agency is the second consecutive Visit Sweden campaign to give the country’s slower pace and accessible nature a specific therapeutic purpose. The 2025 Swedish Prescription campaign, also by Prime Weber Shandwick, presented trips to Sweden as something that could be formally prescribed by doctors, positioning Swedish nature as a clinically credible intervention for stress and burnout.

Both campaigns follow the same underlying strategic logic: Sweden’s least flashy characteristics, its quietness, its emptiness, its cultural acceptance of solitude, are not weaknesses to be compensated for with spectacular attractions. They are the product. The audience that needs what Sweden actually has is enormous and largely underserved by conventional destination marketing that leads with activity, spectacle, and social experience.

Susanne Andersson, CEO of Visit Sweden, described the campaign’s core promise in a single line: “Here, being social is an option, not an obligation.”

That line is the campaign. Everything else is the evidence that Sweden can keep it.
