Purra Water Showed Up to a Fitness Event With Its Own Bottles as the Kettlebell

By Amruta Jadhav On Read 4 min read

Most water brands at sports events set up a hydration station, place their logo on refrigerators, and call it a sponsorship. Purra, a Thai mineral water brand owned by Singha Corporation, arrived at HYROX Bangkok in August 2026 as the event’s hydration partner and decided its product should do something more physically interesting than sit in a cooler.

The Product

The Purra Kettlebell is a molded plastic handle that clips onto two 1.5-litre Purra mineral water bottles to create a functional 3-kilogram training weight. The handle is finished in the same powder blue as Purra’s branding, debossed with the brand name, and shaped with the same scalloped horns found on a competition-style kettlebell. The ergonomic horn spacing mirrors conventional kettlebell dimensions almost exactly, wide enough for a two-handed swing without knuckles catching on the bottle caps. The integrated weight marking on the handle is precise to the gram: two full 1.5-litre bottles create exactly 3 kilograms. As the water is consumed during training, the weight decreases, making the kettlebell progressively lighter with use.

A second version accommodating four bottles was also developed, adjusting the weight from 3 to 6 kilograms depending on how much water each bottle contains. The design borrows from the established category of aqua bags, which use water as adjustable resistance during training, and translates that principle into the far more familiar shape of a kettlebell. The familiar form matters operationally: athletes do not need an explanation before understanding how to use it.

The Setting It Was Made For

HYROX is one of the world’s fastest-growing fitness race formats, combining 8 kilometres of running with eight functional workout stations, one of which is a kettlebell station. Purra arrived at HYROX Bangkok, held at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center in August 2026, as the official hydration partner. The kettlebell is one of the eight fixed equipment stations that every HYROX athlete completes. A water brand showing up at an event built around a kettlebell station, with a product that becomes a kettlebell, is, as Yanko Design’s reviewer described it, “closer to a punchline than a pitch.”

During the event, athletes and visitors could test the Purra Kettlebell through squats, swings, and loaded carries at the brand’s activation area. The sponsorship was not a logo placement. It was an activity. Athletes were training with the brand’s product rather than simply seeing it on a banner while they trained with someone else’s equipment.

The Social Media Result

The Purra Kettlebell was not designed as a mass-market retail product. It was created as a brand activation prop. The concept is so immediately comprehensible from a single image, four water bottles, one handle, instant kettlebell, that it does not require a caption or a campaign explanation to generate engagement on social media. Wersm confirmed that Purra had fewer than 7,000 Instagram followers when the campaign launched, yet the introductory post attracted more than 30,000 likes within 24 hours. The spread ratio between follower count and engagement reflects the quality of an idea that earns its own distribution rather than requiring paid amplification to reach its audience.

The Design Quality That Made It Travel

Yanko Design’s reviewer, who had built a DIY version of a bottle kettlebell during the pandemic, assessed the execution with the authority of direct experience: “Nothing about it screams cheap giveaway. It screams someone in the marketing department actually asked an industrial designer for help instead of ordering branded tote bags like everyone else.” The molded form, the powder blue colourway matching Purra’s label, and the ergonomic horn spacing are details that distinguish a considered product from promotional merchandise produced at minimum viable specification.

The campaign concept borrows from an established product category while placing it in the hands of a brand that had the most contextually appropriate reason to execute it. Water is the ingredient inside every kettlebell Purra produced. The training tool and the hydration product are the same object. That coincidence is the entire idea, and the precision of the execution made it impossible to ignore.
