AXA Funds Amateur Teams Proving “Nothing stops women’s rugby”

The French women’s rugby team attracts growing audiences but continues to face structural and cultural hurdles. AXA and Publicis Conseil launched a national media campaign to challenge outdated stereotypes and provide tangible support to female athletes. The strategy positions AXA as the first brand to partner with French women’s rugby across all levels, from amateur clubs to the international stage.

The physical execution centres on a three minute cinematic film broadcast in prime time on France TV. The media placement aligned directly with the launch of the Women’s Six Nations tournament. Directed by Julien and Quentin, the film opens in a stereotypical 1970s club. Male actors in suits deliver absurd arguments against female participation in sports, citing a lack of changing rooms.

The narrative abruptly shifts to modern contemporary footage. The visuals document female athletes engaging in intense physical training while managing demanding work and study schedules. A driving dance track paces the aggressive modern visuals. This visual contrast dismantles historical prejudice by showcasing the real physical effort required to compete at the highest level.

The media rollout extends beyond the initial television spot. The agency created 30 second cutdowns to air consistently throughout the Six Nations broadcast. Broadcast billboards frame the start and end of the live rugby matches. A national out of home campaign supports the television effort with high visibility posters dominating train stations across France to intercept daily commuters.

The campaign moves past awareness to deliver a direct physical impact. The media messaging promotes the Women on the Field initiative. This program directly funds and equips 50 amateur women’s rugby clubs with full playing gear starting in September 2026. The physical work demonstrates how high level broadcast visibility, combined with localised funding, can scale participation in a developing sport.
