Every summer, the Belgian coast fills with people who stayed on the beach too long. The evidence is visible for days: sharp tan lines left by caps, sunglasses, necklaces, and shorts, marking skin in clearly defined shapes that were not there before. Burger King Belgium and Happiness Brussels looked at those marks and recognised them immediately. They looked exactly like the result of being flame-grilled.
The Campaign

Leave The Flame Grilling To Us launched in summer 2026, built around a single visual observation. The distinct, sharply defined tan lines that summer sun leaves on skin are the same kind of mark that Burger King’s flame-grilling leaves on a burger. The parallel requires no explanation. The sunburn pattern is the product demonstration. The tagline closes it: “Leave The Flame Grilling To Us.”
Five print executions feature close-up photographs of real sunburn patterns, each one shaped by a different summer accessory. A cap peak. A pair of sunglasses. A necklace. The waistband of shorts. A sleeve. Each shape is immediately recognisable as something that has happened to almost everyone who has ever spent an afternoon outdoors without adequate sunscreen. Each one looks, once the parallel has been established, like the grill marks on a Whopper.
The campaign relies on visual humour rather than product photography. When a Whopper or Burger King packaging appears, it sits in the background. The sunburn patterns carry the creative weight. The headline delivers the punchline.
The “Tanmaxxing” Context
The campaign arrived alongside a specific cultural moment. “Tanmaxxing,” the practice of deliberately maximising sun exposure to achieve the deepest possible tan, had become one of 2026’s most discussed summer trends across TikTok and social media. Rather than commenting on the trend directly, Happiness Brussels identified the universal experience that sits alongside it: the sunburn that arrives when the session goes too long. The campaign does not mock tanmaxxing. It simply notes that some people are better at controlled heat application than others, and Burger King has been doing it since 1954.
Geoffrey Hantson, Chief Creative Officer at Happiness Brussels, has built the agency’s Burger King work around finding the specific cultural moment where the brand’s flame-grilling heritage connects to something happening in the world outside the restaurant. Leave The Flame Grilling To Us follows the same logic as previous Happiness Brussels campaigns that used Burger King’s cooking method as the creative mechanism rather than the product itself.
The Deployment
The campaign ran across social media, digital out-of-home, the Belgian coast tram network, and wildposting. The coastal tram network is a specific and deliberate placement: it runs along the Belgian coastline through the beach resorts where the campaign’s subject matter is most visible and most relevant. A person riding the tram back from a day at the beach, aware of the emerging tan line across their forearm, would encounter the Burger King campaign at exactly the moment it was most recognisable.
